Mindful Practices' Students Perform at Taste of Chicago

This past summer the city of Chicago invited Mindful Practices to be a participant at the Taste of Chicago. Over 50 Hip-HopYoga students from schools across Chicago came together to perform a routine inspired by the famous choregraphy in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. To prepare, the students spent the entire semester prior to the performance vigorously developing and rehearsing a routine fusing hip-hop dance with yoga. Check out an excerpt of the performance below:

The culmination of all the students' hardwork paid off ten fold. Not only did the students attract a large audience, Mindful Practices was asked back for 2010's Taste of Chicago! Needless to say, the event was a great experience for all involved, but you don't have to take our word for it. Here's what one student had to say about the exciting day:

I felt really nervous at the Taste of Chicago because there was a lot of people. I felt better when we started performing. I felt better because we were doing good and in the end we improved in Hip Hop Yoga. I think other children should join because Hip Hop Yoga is really relaxing and it is really fun. It is fun because you get to do lots of yoga and you can make your own ideas.

I hope in the future many other children will join Hip Hop Yoga and have as much fun as we did. I hope to continue Hip Hop Yoga because it is relaxing and you get to hang out with your friends. When I grow up maybe I can teach Hip Hop Yoga because it helps children deal with stress in a good way and it will be fun. Well thank you for coming and I hope you like the show.

After the big performance, All-star Mindful Practices' staff member Shannon taught the entire audience a new, fun Hip-HopYoga routine. Check out the video!

Mindful Practices would like to give a big thanks to the city of Chicago for making us a part of Taste of Chicago and to LuluLemon's Bucktown store for providing the students with fun, oversized stickers that quickly became a "must-have" accessory.
